Caregivers are defined as people who care for someone that may be disabled, ill, the elderly or someone who is struggling with a mental health illness. Caregivers are anyone who helps others in their day to day life and this can be a family member or a friend. Caring may be required round the clock, or it may only be required a few hours a week
Although being cared for by a friend or family member may be the best option for the person being cared for, it can take quite a toll emotionally and physically on the caregiver. Caring for some means that a huge amount of your time is spent on others. Be U Counselling Service, based in Poole, Dorset offers you, as a carer a space to talk about your thoughts and your feelings in a safe, confidential environment. It allows you time to think about your needs and can make you make sense of your emotions and develop coping mechanisms which you can use throughout the day. Talking therapy can be extremely beneficial to you, as you can learn relaxation techniques and how to carry out self-care.
I offer a 30 minute, no obligation session, where you can come and meet me, ask me questions or use it as a short counselling session to get a feel for what counselling is like and whether it is something that you want to commit to. This session will also give you an opportunity to discover if you feel comfortable working with me and are able to build a therapeutic relationship with me, which is very important for counselling to take place. If after the 30 minutes, you are happy and would like to commit to the counselling sessions, I will book you in for an assessment session where we will set out a therapeutic contract.
