Our identity is the way we define ourselves and the role we play in our society, family and friends. Your identity can include your hobbies, interests and hopes for the future and as our situations and circumstances change, this can make us question and challenge our beliefs.

A person without a sense of identity can often feel disconnected from themselves and way often feel like a different person from day to day.  This can also mean that you behaviours may interchange with your surroundings and things change according to your partners likes and dislikes. Therefore you will mould to your environment rather than have your environment mould to you.

This can also happen when you become a parent because your identity becomes a mother or father and you can often ‘lose yourself’ as a person or in a family where you might find it hard to discover yourself as a person.

Not being sure of your identity can mean that you end up living a life that comes your way rather than living a  life you want. It can result in living life how you think other people may want you to live, which in turn could end up leaving you unhappy and feeling unfulfilled.

This is your life. It should be lived how you want to live it and you should be doing things that you want to be doing. Finding who you are, your likes, your dislikes are so important to maintain your overall happiness and fulfilment.

Be U Counselling Service based in Poole, Dorset can provide you with a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore different areas of your life, your likes and dislikes so you start to develop your sense of your identity. Together we can uncover your inner self so that you can directly confirm what you represent. We can look at examples from your life and look at your current self and try to work out where you want to be. By using various handouts and goal setting skills we could aim at achieving a new you that you are comfortable with.

I offer a free 30 minute, no obligation session where you can come and meet me, ask me questions or use it as a short counselling session to get a feel for what to commit to. This session will give you the opportunity to discover if you feel comfortable working with me and are able to build a therapeutic relationship with me which is important for counselling to take place. If after the 30 minutes, you are happy and would like to continue the counselling sessions, I will book you in for an assessment session where we will set out a therapeutic contract.
